chuth@lonestar.utsa.edu (Cornel H. Huth) - it's obvious you are very
angry, but I regret that being only a musician and not a developer I
cannot help you solve your problems with Forte or their SDK, or
play judge. But - there is separate mailing list for developers. Why
don't you try them? Perhaps they can help.

You need to limit the playback range(the yellow shaded area on the keyboard)
to just one key. For example, if you are making a acoustic snare patch, you
have to limit the playback range to just D2 then go to the tuning option to
adjust the the playback frequency of the snare wave..

Subject: GUS Windows Drivers (and CW 2.0)
The new Windows drivers don't let you specify the default starting volume
for MIDI and WAVE and they don't let you select line in, microphone and so
on. I have to manually set these every single time I start Windows with
the mixer aplet. Is there any way to avoid this? It's a serious pain in
the ass.
Thanks...
BTW, I noticed something really strange in Cakewalk 2.0 today. I had been
working on this sequence and I decided to change the instruments in the
second repeat and I went into the event list. Every note that isn't
percussion is getting played on channel 1 no matter what channel I specify
for that particular track. CW seems to be taking care of it internally or
something (since no two events can happen at PRECISELY the same time, I
guess it's doing lots of internal patch changes or something) but this
seems really odd. When I save as a .MID then the channels are correct,
but I have the same old problem of it using NOTE ON...NOTE ON instead of
NOTE ON...NOTE OFF...NOTE ON...NOTE OFF which causes my .MID files to be
unplayable in DOS. I haven't been able to find a toggle for that anywhere
in the manual or in the online help.
Suggestions? Comments?

But I work for Howling Dog Systems... Maybe you're thinking of someone else. I
do accept the standing ovation, in any case!

Yah, that's me all right.
How 'bout just sending cash? :)

> rez3 = (rez2 * 75h)/7Fh rez3 = (100 * rez2)/7Fh
I don't know what the official answer is, but these two calculations
(and any other variations involving just multiplying the numbers
together) give the SAME answer.
>How is the pitchbend range determined?
A previous digest included how to set the range. Apparently set
controllers 100/101 OFF (0), set the range (tones) in controller 6,
then set 100/101 ON (127) again. Where are any docs which tell us
this stuff? I have two MIDI spec documents, but they are very sketchy
in the area of what controllers might do what.
Finally, someone complemented Eric Bell of Forte. I'm sure Eric will
tell us himself, but he is the PowerChords man at Howling Dog, and
not Forte as far as I know. Do you mean John Smith at Gravis? And does
everyone on first hearing that name say "Surely that's not REALLY his
name" - several of my friends have. Apologies John!

Sure. Just not ready, yet.

No, not for Windows programs.

I paid money for the original SDK. I was so "MAD" at its abysmal contents that
I called GUS "tech support" just to let them know that I felt I was ripped-off.
If anyone has the beta SDK, you know what I mean. Press 9 to make this urgent!

What do they care? I'm upset with the thing. They like it. I can't see how.

I've got SB16 docs. Already have the the SB-Pro and SBs down (even the
undocumented stuff). Got all I need from MV. AdLib - piece of cake.
OPL3 - ditto. Aria? Got a two-inch SDK here for it. Roland, well, whatever.
TB? Don't care about it.

Abuse? Heh! 1.5 years and all there is is this SDK 2.10? Now that's abuse.

And a few more still. You don't have to like what I say. However, it's the
way I feel. If you're happy with all this "wonderful support" that you
think the GUS "users" are getting, great. I'm not so easily satisified.
If I hadn't already put so much time in the thing, I'd have dumped it.
If there had been a real SDK to begin with, I wouldn't have had to spend
so much of my time with it (and I wouldn't be here telling you about it).
(Did someone bring up OS/2, again!?)
